Reflection Numero 5: Recording Voicethreads/Google Docs

Today in Health Systems Orientation we began recording our voicethreads.  Part of our assignment is to provide comments about a certain culture such as the aboriginals from Australia.  We use the magic pen to highlight certain aspects of the picture and emphasize our comments.  Embedding projects from an online source is not too difficult and I’m pretty sure I could do it myself.  However, it may be necessary for certain sites without an embed code option to know how to put something on my blog.  Google Docs is amazing.  Now I can save documents online.  Then I can access them anywhere I have internet.  This ability can be extremely beneficial for not only my own access but I can also have other people working on the same document at the same time.  That can speed up production.  You upload documents by clicking on the icon for uploading.  Then you can use them as a link for a website.  You can also create a document and have others work on the same document.  However, first you have to have set the privacy setting to public and then add your friends.  That way they can edit the document as well.

Reflection Numero 4:Composing a Voicethread

Today we pieced together our voicethread projects and in it I included information about how averting your eye contact is a sign of respect among aboriginals.  It is important to know this because now I won’t be offended should I be treating an aboriginal that won’t look at me.  We also included information about how women are treated like property.  This is similar to our country and culture a few centuries ago.  We used to treat women like we owned them and that all they were for was to stay at home and watch after our children.

HIPAA Jingle Video

Here is Seal Team 2's HIPAA Jingle, complete with video and audio.  Using zamzar.com, I converted a file from vocaroo.com to an mp3 file that I added to the video.  Now it is complete and you can view it below.

The video is an informational jingle about the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA) and its importance.  It was created by Brady, Dylan, Alyssa, and Rachel at the Health Systems Academy in Papillion.  HIPAA protects patient confidentiality and the consequences for breaking HIPAA are severe.  To learn more about HIPAA you can look at the mind map I created at bubbl.us, embedded in my blog at the bottom of the page.  Hope the video and mind map are informational and you enjoy them.

Reflection Numero 3: Exploring Culture

My group chose to research the culture of Australia and specifically the Aboriginals from Australia.  We chose this culture because the aboriginals sounded interesting and I have never learned anything about them.  Something new about the culture that I learned is that a hug or a kiss on the cheek is the way to greet a friend.  I also learned that averting eye contact in conversation is considered a sign of respect among aboriginals.  This could be a very important skill to have should I sometime have to care for an aboriginal in the medical setting I may need to avert my eyes or not be offended if the patient isn't looking at me.  I want to learn more about the medical practices the ancient aboriginals used to stay healthy.  I think that would be really cool and useful.

XC Wordle

Here is my experiment with wordle.net.  I used words from my Cross Country and Track experience.  Wordle.net works by taking any text you put in to the program and makes an image from all the words.

CCC Unit Reflection Numero 2: An Intro to Our Blogs

In class we took some Implicit Association Tests (IATs).  These tests are designed to measure your unconscious associations between categories.  I took the race and weight tests.  I found that I had a strong unconscious preference for both European Americans and thin people as opposed to African Americans and fat people.  I was a little bit surprising but it all depends on where you grew up and what you is familiar to you.  The point of the test is to point out the tendencies that you have on a subconscious basis.
So far this unit we have used many new websites.  We used Google Drive and Blogger to create a website and post documents via Google Drive.  We also learned how to screenshot pictures and put them on our websites.  We also used wordle.com to make really cool word collages.
I can use the new blogger account for my senior portfolio in Health Systems Orientation (HSO).  That will make things easy to post online for others to see and use.  I can also use Google Drive to post documents online and allow other classmates to work on them and edit them.  This will make group projects way easier.  I will also be able to take screenshots and save them for further use.
